The History of Thortons

Thortons Inc. is founded in 1971 by Mr. James Thorthon. Prior to this business, the founder has experienced retailing gasoline in the year 1952. This effort led to the very rapid growth of a chain of gas stations called “Payless.”   The first “Thorntons” location opened in 1971 in Clarksville, Indiana.   In the 1980s, Thorntons turned from kiosk locations to convenience stores and which had grew into over 100 locations.

Matt Thornton, son of James Thornton, added his touch to the industry by introducing a larger facility with an expanded fast-food program, a corner-grocery concept, sparkling restrooms, and the best employees in 2002. In 2007, Thorntons introduced its newest concept store with the fastest service, cleanest restrooms, freshest food, and superior merchandising.

To vouch for the company’s excellence, The Forbe’s Magazine recognizes Thorntons as the 250th largest privately-held company in United States with over 1.7 billion dollars in annual sales.

Job Description/Salary Ranges

Audit Associate: The person assigned in this position has the duties of testing and reviewing corporate internal controls and processes in accordance with the company’s annual audit plan. He/She also needs to ensure that employees comply with rules and regulations as well as industry practices and human resources policies when performing their jobs. The annual salary ranges $48K to $58K.

Cashier:  Like other companies, the cashier is responsible for maintaining outstanding customer service as per company standards, processing sales quickly, performing cash register operations and safeguarding company assets.     The expected annual salary is $33K to $38K.

Senior Manager: The senior manager will implement plans, strategies and policies and guide and direct employees to achieve it. He/She will also supervise and coordinate the organization’s operations and make sure employees have the resources needed to do their jobs. His other responsibilities include establishing organizational compliance and controlling standards to ensure company staff follows ethical business practices; establishing the image of the company by interacting with community organizations, customers, government officials and employees. The annual salary is $127K to $128K.
