History of Sleep Outfitters

It was in 1983 when the history of Sleep Outfitters began. The first store was opened by Kim Brown Knopf in So. Charleston, W.Va. 3 years after, the corporate office and first distribution center in Winfield,W.Va was opened. The business has grown into several stores and has acquired several other businesses. Kim continued opening new Mattress Warehouse stores across West Virginia; When the company expanded in Kentucky in 2002, the Sleep Outfitters brand was born. In 2004, the acquisition of Westco Group in Akron, Oh. and Mattress Firm in Louisville, Ky. added 15 stores to the chain, making it 30-stores in total.

Presently, there are a total of 90 stores all over West Virginia, Lexington, Louisville, Cleveland and Cincinnati, Mattress Warehouse/Sleep Outfitters was on its way to becoming a regional force in the retail bedding business. The company is nationally recognized as national leader in the retail bedding industry.

Job Description/Wage Averages

Store Manager: This person oversees the entire store operation. He/She sees to it that the employees are working according to the company standards and goals. He/She may also plan and find strategies on how to meet the sales goals and quota of the store.   In the downtime, paperwork will have to be filed and meetings will have to be attended as well to keep up with company notes. The annual salary ranges $41K to $43K.

Sales Associates: This person is responsible in generating sales for the company; he is the in charge of attending customer inquiries about the products; help the customers in getting the right product they need .

Distribution Center Manager:  The essential duties of this position are to hire and train warehouse personnel to be proficient in performing all shipping and receiving functions and procedures;

ensure that all company and warehouse staff accurately adheres to departmental processes and procedures; ensure that all warehouse delivery team members in driving positions are driver qualified;

monitor warehouse safety and quality processes and controls; implementation, execution and evaluation of warehouse and other related standards and procedures such as receiving of merchandise, picking and loading, customer set-up and delivery, and COD collections.
