Being a teenager, Robert Onstead delivers groceries for his uncle that is located in Ennis, Texas. In the year 1954, he was 24 years old at that time and was recently married. Robert’s father-in-law offered him a job at the Radalls Super Valu store located in Pasadena. The man gave him a piece of advice which is to treat the customers the way how you treat your own family. Onstead is certain in business, his marketing skills was demonstrated and perceived when he was able to open his second store shortly afterward. Twelve years after, Onstead joined forces with his two business partners, Norman Frewin and R.C. Barclay, both were instinctive entrepreneurs. The three of them does develop the concept of a discount supermarket.

Job Description/ Wage Averages

Checker:   This position varies from store to store, though there are some aspects that there are standard job requirements no matter where you work. The tasks of this person entail counting till, customer service, credit and debit card handling,cash counting,   cleanup,   manual labor, the memorization of product codes and much more . This position obtains a salary of $7 per hour.

Deli Clerk:   A Service Deli Clerk is responsible in preparing, slicing, wrapping,   pricing, and merchandising the department’s deli products.   This person informs customers about deli products and services and help increase sales by handing out food samples and by recommending additional items to customers. This position is obtaining a salary of $9 per hour.

Deli Manager:   This position is responsible for managing department inventory,   pricing items, in-stock position, labor, merchandising,   and other operational processes of the Deli Department to company standards. This person will plan and order according to work standards to maximize sales and gross profit. Deli Manager ensures all new department associates receive proper training and supervision as well as ensures correct   storage, ordering,   unloading, receiving, and rotation of merchandise and building of displays.   The Deli Manager is about to receive an annual salary of $33k to $36k.

Assistant Store Director:   This position observes and enforce all store rules and company policies and actively support the Store Director. This person is responsible to perform all duties of the Store Director in his/her absence. He is to contribute to profitable operation of the store. The Assistant store manager handles customer complaints and ensures that all store personnel are courteous to customers.   This position obtains a salary that ranges from  $45k up to $49k annually.
