History of K&W Cafeteria

K&W Cafeterias offers fresh, made-from-scratch foods for over 70 years. K&W Cafeterias beginnings can be traced back in the mid-1930s as a small coffee shop located on Cherry Street in downtown Winston-Salem, NC. Soon after, it was renamed K&W Restaurant after original investors Thomas, Kenneth and William Wilson and their brother-in-law, T.K. Knight. In 1951, this turned into cafeteria-style service restaurant. It has grown into over 30 cafeterias throughout NC, SC, VA, and WV with one basic philosophy: “good food at a reasonable price is never out of style.”

Job Description/Wage Averages

Checker: This person will be the one to tally customer ticket at the end of the serving line.

Cashier (pre-employment background records check will be conducted)

Cafeteria Manager: This position must oversee all functions of the restaurant including opening, mid and closing shifts and other key operation activities of the company. He/She must be able to coordinate staff and resources to attain company goals; must possess strong sales building skills, knowledge of profit and loss, excellent communication skills, and a positive, results oriented attitude.

Host/Hostess: This person spearheads the activities of dining room personnel to provide fast and courteous service to guests; schedule and arrange dining reservations; greet guests, escorts them to tables, and provides menus; respond to complaints; assign work tasks and coordinate activities of dining room personnel to ensure prompt and courteous services; inspect dining room serving stations to ensure neatness and cleanliness.

Cashier: The cashier will work with the restaurant manager, servers, and guests in all sales transactions. He/She handles the cash register as well as the different payment transactions of the customers. Cashiers are responsible for screening and directing incoming phone calls, as well as handling to-go and pick-up food orders.
