Casey’s General Stores, Inc. activates expediency stores in the Midwest under the Casey’s General Store name that trades an extensive array of groceries, beverages, tobacco products, health and beauty products, automotive products, gasoline, and other things. The company was the nation’s sixth largest convenience store chain in the early 1990s and, according to its Co-Founder and Chief Managerial Officer, the third-largest in 1996. At the end of economic 1996, there were 983 Casey’s stores, including 182 franchised units, in nine states. All were within a 500-mile radius of company headquarters in Ankeny, Iowa, with mainly in Iowa (312), Illinois (235), Missouri (222). 72 percent were in areas with residents under 5,000 and only 6 percent in communities of over 20,000.

Job Description / Average Wage

Team Member: As a team member, you’re going to help with stock, running the cash register, as well as making sure that the store remains clean.   You’re going to help with things such as assisting the customer, keeping the store clean, as well as ensure that the whole store is running according to the company policy.   The average wage for this position is anywhere from $7 to $10 a hour.

Area Supervisor: The job position holder will act as liaison amid District Managers. He/She allots store locations, supervises general store operations to assure customer happiness, productivity and sales. Every Area Supervisor supervises eight to ten store locations. The major job duties of this position is to administer straightly or else through reporting managers, personnel activity including hiring, training, wage administration, performance management and corrective actions. Teach Store Managers in all phases of store operations and make sure Assistant Managers are correctly trained. Assist Store Managers in choice making and problem solving. Ensure all company policies are adhered to. Accomplish audits to ensure precise reporting. And sustain store operations in absence of Store Managers.   The average wage for an hourly Area Supervisor is $11.88 an hour.

Assistant Managers: As the assistant manager, one’s work is to assists store managers in each day store activities and manages store operations in the nonappearance of the Store Manager. The main job of this position is to help in hiring decisions, employee teaching and performance supervision. Assist with secretarial, auditing and ordering supply as needed. Assist in establishing work schedule and make sure all work assignments are covered daily. Manage cash register and all other machines and apparatus on store premises. And help to preserve cleanliness and appearance of internal and external of store. The average salary starts at $16.82 an hour.
