History Black Bear Diner

In 1861, Sisson, the founder of the company opened an inn near the town now called Mt. Shasta City. This inn overlooked the wild berry patches nearby that were frequented by both black bears and people alike and soon thereafter, the inn became a well-known stopover. Large portions of quality food in an interesting and friendly atmosphere became the standard that people expected on their visits. In 1995, Bob and Laurie Manley, along with their partner Bruce Dean, opened the first Black Bear Diner on the near Mt. Shasta. They have the desire to rekindle the level of hospitality that was given to the early guests to Strawberry Valley. The menu, service and decor were designed to remind the guest of a time when life was a little more simple, and service and quality of business. The owners feel great satisfaction that after one hundred years, the black bears again look over Strawberry Valley.

This family of restaurants has grown from the single location at Mt. Shasta, to over 50 restaurants in the Western United States with each restaurant still dedicated to the same simple concepts.

Job Description/Wage Averages

Server: The server is responsible for serving the orders of the customers according to the standards of the company and based on customer preferences. he also responds to customers’ needs and answer complains too.

Cashier: This person is responsible in receiving the payment of the customers whether in cash or through credit cards. He/She will also assist other restaurant crew members in entertaining and attending to the needs of the guests.

Dishwasher: This position has the responsibility of ensuring that all dishes, glasses, utensils and kitchen equipment are well cleaned, sanitized and stored in the proper area. He/She is also to make sure that areas where dishes are placed are also sanitized and well cleaned.

Cook: The cook prepares the dishes ordered by the customers and as well as prepare the specialty dishes of the restaurant. He/She is to use kitchen equipment properly, ensure that the kitchen is well cleaned and sanitized, as well prepare the foods accordingly.
