History of Quik Trip

Quik Trip main headquarters is located in Tulsa and it is a chain of convenience stores. Most of the stores are located in the Midwestern and Southern parts of the United States. Chester Cadieux and Burt B. Holmes opened up the first store in 1958 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Quik Trip advocates that its gasoline is “high- quality” and in 2004 received the “Top Tier” rating from General Motors, BMW, Honda, Volkswagen, Audi and Toyota. This rating exceeds the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s standards for gasoline additives.  The Quik Trip stores are noted for a wide variety of fountain drinks, gourmet sandwiches and grill items.  They are also well known for the fact that their locations are larger than the average gas station, offering anywhere from 6 to 24 gas pumps with a large retail space inside.  All Quik Trip stores are owned and operated by the company. They all have the same layout, offer the same products, and the employee’s are all treated equally the same when it comes to benefits, wages, and training.

Job Description/ Average Wage

Relief Worker: Usually the relief worker comes on duty for the night shift and takes the place of the workers in order to let them have a break. Most relief workers only work part-time for a few hours each evening in order to give the bulk of the workers time to eat or take a short break. They must be able to handle the cash register, floor, and a variety of other duties to help operate the store during break time. The average wage for a relief worker is normally $10.00 an hour.

Night Assistant: The night assistant works instead of the manager. They are responsible for closing the store if they close or at least closing out the night shift for the start of the day shift. They must know how to operate all the stores operations from the gas pumps to inside cash area. They are responsible to help customers and employees during their shifts. They must also make sure that the safety of everyone is kept during their shift. The average wage for a night shift assistant is $10.39 an hour and they work normally a 46 hour week. The average weekly pay is around $509.00 giving them a yearly wage of $36,900.

Part-Time Clerk: A part-time clerk works behind the counter in one section of the store. They may work for the deli, service station or the retail division. They take the cash from the customers, ringing up the sales and giving the customer their change. They must be friendly and courteous to all the customers. They are supposed to keep their area clean and make sure that their cash drawer is kept in balance. A part-time clerk normally earns $8.00 an hour.

• Life: Coverage at twice the previous year’s earnings. Supplemental term and whole life plans also available.
• Vision: Covers eye examinations and glasses or contact lenses.
• Part-time: Employees are eligible for insurance coverage through Star Bridge after 30 days of employment. At their second anniversary, they may enroll in the standard Quik Trip Benefits Plan.

• 401 (k): Annual manual amount of $16,500 from each employee’s compensation can be invested in Quik Trip’s 401 (k) plans. Quik Trip matches the employee’s contribution at a 50% rate for up to 6% of their annual pay.
• Profit Sharing: Quik Trip annually contributes a percentage of pretax profit.
• Employee Stock Option Plan (ESOP) Quik Trip annually contributes company stock equivalent to a percentage of pretax profit.
