History of Biggby Coffee

Biggby Coffee is a coffee franchise business located in   East Lansing, Michigan. It was founded on March 1995. Its original name is Beaner’s by Bob Fish and Mary Roszel. The first location opened was in the campus of Michigan State University. The company changed its name to Biggby Coffee in late 2007. Biggby joined the franchising business system in 1999. Biggby Coffee has more or less 135 stores open or under contract in Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, South Carolina, Texas and Wisconsin.

Job Description/Wage Averages

Barista:   This person has to serve food and alcoholic beverages to guests at the bar; prepare alcoholic beverages for servers at the service bar window. Basic functions include: greeting the bar guests; provides menus and takes food and/or beverage orders; responding to questions and giving beverage recommendations; preparing beverage orders for guests; setting up, maintaining, restocking side work, and closing bar and bar service window stations; cleaning the bar station; ringing up guest checks accurately and completely; processes guests’ payments and provides accurate change; maintaining a presentable appearance and good personal hygiene.

Shift Manager: The Shift Manager is responsible for leading restaurant operations during a shift and must ensure to follow guidelines, policies and procedures.   The Shift Managers are also responsible for delivering outstanding guest service, coaching, training and developing team members, and managing inventory, labor and cash handling.

IT Technician/Help Desk: This position is a very important component of our customer service oriented IT organization.   This position is addressing IT issues that occur both locally and at other restaurant locations.   General areas of responsibility include telephones, networks, applications, hardware and peripherals and account maintenance.

Server: This person will attend to guest needs; receives orders and delivers the orders accordingly. He/She must to respond to different inquiries of the customers and may also suggest menus. He/She must process bills accurately or work with the cashier in calculating checks.

Store Manager: This person has the responsibilities which include managing all areas of the store operations like on-the-spot decision making, supporting the staff, interacting with the guest, ensuring that the guests’ needs, enforcing standards for individual performance; assess staffing needs and recruit staff; monitor purchasing, storage, preparation, cooking, handling, and serving of all food and beverage products; ensure correct recipe, portion, and specification standards; act as support system for all areas of the restaurant; organize and direct training programs within the restaurant; maintain spotlessly clean and safe restaurant at all times. The annual salary is $18k to $20K.
