History of United Supermarkets

United Supermarket beginnings can be traced in the year 1916, when H.D. Snell opened his first United Cash Store in Sayre, Oklahoma. Today, his legacy has grown to include 50 stores in 30 Texas cities.

In 1949, the Texas stores became a separate company when H.D. “Jack” Snell, Jr., purchased the Vernon and Wellington grocery stores. He introduced United to Lubbock in the 1950s, Wichita Falls in the 1960s and Amarillo in the 1970s. At present, the company remains true to its mission to serve only quality products and services.

Job Description/Wage Averages

Grocery Stocker: The grocery stocker looks after the merchandize in the store. He/she ensures that all the merchandise are in the right place so shoppers will be able to find what they need quickly and easily. The annual salary is $29k to $31k.

Meat Department Manager: A meat department manager supervises the meat department’s operations. He/she is the manager of the employees in the department so he will be taking charge in the training, overseeing, scheduling and completing work, and other tasks. He/she has to ensure quality customer service and must be responsible for handling complaints, ensuring satisfaction and maintaining quality service. The annual salary ranges $63k to $68k.

Bucher: The butcher primarily performs the meat cutting functions. He will also plan, prepare, executing all proportioning and ordering of the meat according to standards. He must maintain a clean and sanitized area. The hourly rate is $15 to $17.

Stocker: The stock clerk is the in charge of the stocks in the sales floor. He/she adds stocks and displays the merchandize accordingly; replenish stocks and store them in the proper place. He/she must have knowledge on what stocks are salable and what are not. The hourly rate is $10.

Cashier: The cashier receives the payment of the customer whether done in cash or through cards. He/she must properly account the finances of the store within the time of his/her shift. He/she has to ensure quality customer service; must be knowledgeable about prices of the products and services offered by the company. The hourly rate is $6 to $7.
