History of QVC

The name QVC is an initialism standing for Quality, Value, and Convenience. QVC was founded on June 13, 1986 by Joseph Segel and is located in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Today it is a multinational corporation, specializing in televised home shopping.

It is present in four countries which are the United States, UK, Germany and Japan.   They sell to over 141 million consumer’s name brand products of all variety.   In order to get enough credibility they launched a two year contract with Sears to sell their products.   They started out with fifty-eight cable systems in twenty states signed on to carry its first broadcast which took place 7:30 PM ET on November 24, 1986.

They were able to reach 7.6 million TV homes.   They set a new record for first full-year fiscal sales for a new public company of $112 million dollars.   In the beginning they broadcast weekdays from 7:30 PM ET until midnight and all day on Saturday and Sundays. QVC.com was founded in 1996 and it attracts more than six million unique visitors each month.
