History of Great Harvest Bread Co.

Great Harvest Bread Co. was first established in the year 1970s. The founders were Pete and Laura Wakeman, who baked amazing scratch-made whole grain bread to help pay their tuition at Cornell University. Then, neighbors asked about starting up their own Great Harvest paving way for a franchising business in the year 1978 and this was then followed with more store openings. Today there are more than 200 Great Harvest bakeries located across the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii.

Job Description/Wage Averages

Bakery Training and Development Specialist: Great Harvest Bread Company trains and empowers new bakery owners to operate upbeat, popular and sustainable neighborhood bakeries. As a training and development specialist in Great Harvest, you will work with new bakery owners to take their dream of owning a Great Harvest Bread store from idea to reality. You will help them every step of the way from designing their store to training them to bake and run their store, to training their baking and customer service teams to developing and executing a marketing plan.   The average wage can start at around $8 per hour.

Baker: The baker is responsible for making a wide range of breads, pastries, and other baked goods for the store. He/She must prepare the store’s products according to the company’s standards. He/She must ensure safe food handling services, must ensure cleanliness in the preparation area and must observe the high quality standards for the products he is baking.   The average wage can start at around $9 per hour.

Server:  The server attends to the customers’ orders and delivers the orders promptly. He/She must coordinate with the kitchen staff about the orders and other specification requested by the customers.   You will ensure that the customer was happy with his/her purchase. The average wage can start at around $8 per hour.

Manager: The manager supervises the entire operation of the company including the franchising scheme offered. He/She is to ensure that all activities is the company is geared towards the attainment of goals. He/She will also hire, train new employees and discharge them to the position accordingly.   The average wage can start at around $12 to $15 per hour.
