History of Vallarta Supermarket

Vallarta Supermarkets started in the year 1985. It was founded by Enrique Gonzalez Sr., who was later joined in the business by his four brothers, his son and a nephew.  Their family business named Jalostotitlán which was established in Jalisco, Mexico. Jalostotitlán serves meals from the four basic food groups (dairy, meat, grains, and vegetables). In 1960’s the family migrated to United States. The five brothers accepted jobs in restaurants, either as short order cooks or bussing tables.

In 1985 Enrique Gonzalez Sr. started a grocery business when he opened the first Vallarta Supermarket (Carniceria Vallarta) in Van Nuys, CA.  Vallarta Supermarkets has built a reputation of service and excellence with the dedication of the ownership to focus on customer service with a smile, and to offer only the highest quality products to their customers.  Vallarta Supermarkets sell a wide variety of Latin foods and products which could only be found at its store: meat cut to order Latin style (ranchera, diesmillo, lomo de res), spices, hot foods ready to eat, sweet breads made daily, and fresh produce in addition to everything else you would expect from a traditional grocery store.

Job Description/Wage Averages

Produce Clerk:  This person attends to the customers’ needs promptly and courteously. He/she helps the customers locate the products they need and displays merchandizes accordingly. The hourly rate is from $13 to $14.

Baker: The baker bakes the cookies and breads and other bakery specialty according to the company standards. He/she prepares the needed ingredients too and must ensure that products are freshly baked.

Store Manager: The person in charge of the position organizes, plans, coordinates, and monitors of the entire store operations to lead the company towards growth and profitability. The Manager must implement policies geared towards customer satisfaction.

Grocery Clerk: Grocery clerks are responsible for correctly ringing up, handle the customer’s purchases, and neatly and responsibly bag those customer purchases.

Cashier: The cashier takes charge of the finances of the store. He/she receives the payments of the customers and should ensure customer satisfaction.
