History of Texas Roadhouse

Texas Roadhouse an American chain of restaurants was founded in February 17, 1993 at the Green Tree Mall in Clarksville, Indiana by Kent Taylor. The founder Kent Taylor is originally from Colorado and had worked at nightclubs and restaurants out in Colorado. He/She wanted to give the Texas Roadhouse the Southwestern theme for its customers to enjoy.

Eventually, Kent Taylor returned to what he referred to as his hometown located in Louisville, Kentucky after he had divorced his wife. He/She worked as a Kentucky Fried Chicken manager but had dreams of opening up a western themed restaurant. This dream was fulfilled when the former governor of Kentucky John Y. Brown, Jr. gave him $80,000 to start a restaurant.

He/She opened up his first restaurant and named it Buckhead Hickory Grill in 1991 it began doing very well and he changed the name to Buckhead Mountain Grill. Brown was very satisfied with the success of the restaurant and invested more money so they could open up a second restaurant in Clarksville, Kentucky. The pair began having problems and the partnership fell apart before the opening of the Clarksville restaurant. Taylor found new partners and was forced to change the name to “Texas Roadhouse” which it has remained to this day.
