History of Shari’s Restaurant & Pie Bakery

Shari’s Restaurants began in Hermiston, Oregon, in 1978. With the positive public reaction to Shari’s 24-hour family dining concept, it has grown into 104 restaurants throughout the Western U.S., primarily in Oregon and Washington; making it the largest privately held restaurant chain in Oregon. Shari’s is operated out of Beaverton, OR. The original owners, Ron and Sharon Bergquist, operated the company for seven years. Sharon went by the name “Shari,” which tells how the restaurant was named.

Job Description/Wage Averages

Server:  This person attends to the guests’ needs quickly, efficiently, and appropriately; hence he must possess a complete knowledge of food and beverage menus. He/She has to provide superior customer service, and maintain station in a clean and orderly manner throughout shifts; he has to merchandize food and beverage menus in an informative, friendly and enthusiastic manner like suggesting menu and may also perform upselling; accurately take guest orders; follow to all safety and sanitation policies; calculates each guest bills.  The average wage for this particular position can start at $2 per hour plus tips.

Dishwasher: The position is required to keep a clean and adequate supply of utensils for the kitchen. He/She must ensure clean and sanitized kitchen equipment too.  The average wage for this particular position can start at $8 per hour.

Cashier : A cashier processes cash payments and non-cash payments. He/She should be able to talk to the customers of other payment options available to them and must process bills accurately.  The average wage for this particular position can start at $8 per hour.

Prep Cook: This person has prepare/cook food for guests; ensure that all kitchen equipment, utensils and working areas are well maintained; coordinate prep amounts with managers, follow recipe instructions, use checklists and prep sheets, ensure safe food handling guidelines.  The average wage for this particular position can start at $8 per hour.

Busser: This person ensures a well organized and well cleaned dining room and arranges the dining area appropriately.  The average wage for this particular position can start at $8 per hour.

Restaurant Manager: This person leads all restaurant activities, develops and coaches team members, builds sales and profit while maintaining high operating standards.  He/She has to ensure that all activities are according to guidelines, policies and procedures.  He/She is involved in hiring, training, evaluating, disciplining, terminating and scheduling employees, ensure guest satisfaction and food quality, and manage safety and security within the restaurant.  The average wage for this particular position can start at $13 per hour.
