History of Ryan’s Grill

Ryan’s Grill is owned by Buffets, Inc. who has their office located in Eagan, Minnesota. The company owns a series of buffet style restaurants and Ryan’s Grill is in the group. Joe Hatlen and C. Dennis Scott began the company in 1983 acquiring Ryan’s Grill on November 1, 2006 which let them add an additional 340 buffet style restaurants to their organization. Due to the fact that the economy has gotten so bad and taken a turn for the worse it was necessary for the Buffet’s Inc. to file Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in order to save the restaurants.

They wanted to keep all the stores open under the new structuring plan but unfortunately it was necessary for them to close down about 52 of the restaurants nationwide.  Buffet, Inc. was able to emerge from their Chapter 11 Bankruptcy with a stronger balance sheet and a reduced debt. They have grown to be the largest operators of buffet style restaurants. Ryan’s was founded by Alvin A. McCall in 1977 but today they are owned by Buffet Inc.

Job Description/Average Wage

Cashier: Working the front of the store, you’re going to greet guests as they come into the restaurant.  You’re going to count the heads of people wanting to eat, as well as take their money at the door.  You will also assist them with any problems or questions that they may have.  The average wage is $7 to $10 a hour.

Waitress: The waitress at Ryan’s Grill job function is to help patrons find their seating, supply them with the proper table settings, and make sure that they can find the food bars. When the patron is done eating then they must clear the table getting it ready for the next group of patrons. The average wage is $7.00 an hour.

Dishwasher: A dishwasher is going to help assist in the back of the kitchen.  You’re going bus tables, wash the dishes, as well as ensure that everything is running at 100%.  You will also help with cleaning floors, helping the cooks with cleaning kitchen equipment and more.  The average wage is anywhere from $7 to $9 a hour.

General Manager: The general manager is in charge of the Ryan’s Grill in their area making sure that business runs smoothly, payroll is done, food inventory is met, and that customers are kept happy. The normal wage for a general manager is $46k per year.

Assistant Restaurant Manager: The assistant restaurant manager works more with the employee’s out on the floor. They make sure that the buffet is completely stocked, the drinks are ready, and that the desserts are made well in advance. The assistant manager may take care of any problems that arise between the customers and employees. The average wage for an assistant restaurant manager is $35k per year.
