Carmike Cinemas, Inc. is a U.S. leader in digital cinema and 3D cinema and one of the nation’s largest motion picture exhibitors. Carmike has 243 theatres in 35 states. This theater operator is headquartered in Columbus, Georgia.

Carmike was founded when Carl L. Patrick, Sr.. The company has acquired Martin Theatres in 1982. The theater name comes from a combination of Carl L. Patrick, Sr.’s two sons, Carl Jr. and Michael, so it came out to be called Carmike.

Job Description/Wage Averages

Concessions/Door-worker: The doorperson is often called the “Ambassador” of the theatre. He/She or she is responsible for: taking (and verifying) tickets, providing information, patron safety, patron comfort, (climate control, etc.), periodic checks of the auditoriums and restrooms, cleaning duties, maintaining the outside marquees and posters, general good order of the audience, controlling traffic in lobby and waiting areas, monitoring film presentation (sound, picture focus, and frame), and other duties as may be assigned by the manager.The hourly rate is from $7 to $8.

Sewing Machine Operator: This person sews fabric for refurbished theatre seats and panels to form finished product.

Cashier: The cashier is responsible for the efficient operation of the box office (ticket booth). These responsibilities include: opening the box office, greeting customers (patrons), dispensing tickets, answering the telephone, handling money, checking ticket inventories, verification of money and tickets, cleanliness of the work station, providing information on movies and the local theatres, and customer relations. The annual salary ranges $16k to $18k.

Assistant Manager: An  assistant manager at Carmike must: manage the day to day operations; supervise employees; create work schedule; perform banking transactions; perform inventories. The hourly rate is $8 to $9.

Assistant Controller:  The responsibilities include timely monthly financial statement preparation and management reporting; ensuring the integrity of the general ledger; assisting with 10-Q/10-K filings as well as working with the external auditors to ensure complete and accurate reporting. Solid Excel skills are required for this position and Great Plains experience a plus. The successful candidate will possess strong general ledger accounting skills and be able to identify areas for improvement as well as offer and implement effective solutions. This position will also be responsible for assisting the Controller with special ad-hoc projects as needed. Candidate must be organized, detail oriented, and possess excellent communication skills.
